UWM Makes Large Bublr Investment
Team Bublr and many Bublr supporters gathered at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Golda Meir Library Bublr station to announce one of the country’s largest university investment in an existing bike share system. Guests included newly inaugurated Chancellor Mark Mone, Mayor Tom Barrett, County Executive Chris Abele and a handful of students, including current and past Student Senators.
Using a $300,000 investment from student segregated fees, Bublr has installed six UWM stations. Three Bublr stations are located on the main campus at the Student Union, Sandburg Hall and Golda Meir Library. In addition, each of the North Avenue residence halls — Riverview, Kenilworth Square and Cambridge Commons — have their own station.
And there’s more! The large investment is also underwiting access for over 27,000 UWM students. For the first year of the partnership, any active UWM student can sign up for a year-long Bublr Pass at no cost. The Bublr Pass allows students to take unlimited 60-minute trips. So far, over 750 students have signed up for a Bublr Pass. Haven’t signed up? UWM students can sign up for a Bublr Pass using their UWM email and the code “UWM2015.”
And if that wasn’t enough, three UWM-branded bikes were unveiled to the crowd to much excitement. The bikes feature the UWM logo and are gold instead of traditional “Bublr blue.” If you’re lucky enough to see or ride one of these cool bikes, share your photos by using the hashtag #BublrUWM.
Team Bublr cannot be more excited about this partnership. We are thankful for the student leadership and a supportive UWM administration. We’re so lucky to be working with a great urban university.
